A couple of weeks after the live event we received a letter informing us of success. We had qualified for Robot Wars Series 5 and would be filming at Elstree on the 26th August, exactly one month after the live event.
After much discussion over the contracts and in particular copyright we decided to modify Ruf Ruf Dougal to prevent infringing the Magic Roundabout copyright probably held by 'AB Productions'.
The new Dougal was most definetly of Scottish decent as can be seen by his new tartan coat. He'd also got shorter ears, a longer tail and was now black and grey but he still looked cute.
Filming could possibly last all week depending on our success so we decided to set up a base camp on a local caravan site. Whilst Mentorn would have covered accommodation for team members their budget wouldn't stretch to family and the caravan site provided a good focal point to review progress with our fans (and gather more).
Series 5 is now well and truly over so I think we can tell you we fought the clusterbot Gemini. Despite being told we'd only last 5 seconds without a self righting mechanism Gemini didn't get us over. It was a fairly one way fight though but we only finally gave up when the removable link got snagged and pulled out.
